Patient & Family Rights
Patients and their families have the following rights:
- To be informed about the care and services of the healthcare organization and how to access these services.
- To know the name, role, and qualifications of their physician.
- To have their questions answered promptly.
- To be provided with an Arabic / English interpreter when necessary; other language support is subject to availability.
- To seek a second opinion or transfer care to another physician.
- To refuse treatment (as permitted by law) after being informed of the medical consequences.
- To be free from unnecessary restraint or seclusion.
- To choose their pharmaceutical care provider.
- To receive care from licensed and experienced practitioners in an approved facility.
- To privacy during examinations, procedures, and treatment.
- To participate in decision-making regarding their treatment plan.
- To be protected from physical, verbal, or psychological abuse.
- To receive emergency treatment for stabilization in life-threatening situations.
- To choose or change their treating doctor (subject to availability).
- To receive proper pain assessment and management.
- To be informed of any costs before treatment in non-emergency cases.
- To receive respectful and compassionate care regardless of background.
- To confidentiality of medical records and access upon request.
- To request a chaperone when consulting a doctor of the opposite gender.
- To receive a written copy of Patient & Family Rights & Responsibilities.
- To receive clear information about diagnosis, treatment, risks, alternatives, and outcomes.
- To be informed about risks and alternatives when transferring to another facility.
- To provide general consent for treatment with clear explanation.
- To receive cost estimates and itemized billing upon request.
- To be informed about policies related to care and services.
- To accept or decline participation in clinical research.
- To request medical reports (charges may apply).
- To give written consent before surgeries or procedures.
- To withdraw from medical research at any time without affecting care.
- To verify physician credentials and identification.
- To access support for complaints, disputes, or ethical concerns.
Patients may contact the Patient Experience Office through multiple channels including in-person visits, calling 80096626, emailing Patientexperience@danatalemarat.ae, or submitting feedback forms available at the facility. Patients can also escalate concerns to the M42 corporate office or the Department of Health.
Patient Responsibilities
Patients and their families are responsible for:
- Providing correct and complete information about their past and current medical history.
- Bringing current medications for review.
- Reporting any changes in their condition or concerns regarding their care.
- Following the treatment plan recommended by the healthcare team and asking questions when instructions are unclear.
- Providing signed general consent for treatment when applicable.
- Providing written informed consent before any surgery, anesthesia, or procedures requiring consent after understanding benefits, risks, and alternatives.
- Accepting responsibility if they refuse treatment or do not follow medical advice.
- Providing at least 48 hours' notice if unable to attend an appointment.
- Arriving on time for scheduled appointments; late arrivals (over 15 minutes) may require rescheduling.
- Bringing insurance card or providing insurance details during each visit.
- Carrying valid identification (e.g., Emirates ID or Passport) for every visit.
- Making prompt payment for services rendered.
- Respecting priority given to emergency cases.
- Following the treating doctor’s instructions.
- Adhering to facility rules and regulations, including no-smoking policy, cleanliness, and hand hygiene.
- Being courteous and respectful to staff, patients, and visitors.
- Refraining from abusive language or inappropriate behavior.
- Avoiding bringing valuable personal belongings; the facility is not responsible for loss or damage.
- Providing requested samples and attending medical check-ups or appointments on time.
